Refreshing A Restaurant Space: Lifestyle Cafe Vegan Restaurant
We renovated a bakery into a thriving vegan restaurant in the Olde Town East area of Columbus, Ohio. It was important to preserve the architectural style of Olde Town East, a neighborhood defined by diversity, craftsmanship, and a mix of historic character. MMD provided a design that complements the character of this historic area and that also aligns with their vegan mission. Our design includes a warm and inviting dining area with rich colors, bold lighting, custom-designed signage to attract customers, and a unique décor that is still receiving compliments from its customers.
By highlighting earth tones, using real live plants, and sourcing much of the artwork locally, we captured Olde Towne East’s vibe in Lifestyle Café’s décor, both on the inside and outside. The project included refurbishing the tables and large bar, procurement of signage, and lighting, wall art sourced from the Columbus Transit Arts Program to fill Lifestyle Cafe’s walls with incredible art from talented underserved youth from the city, shelving, restroom items, plants, and décor.
It was a real pleasure doing this project and working with Chef Shanna and the team. We believe our design concept fits perfectly with Lifestyle’s vision of having an inviting atmosphere for people to come and enjoy good vegan food.
Nurturing Inner Peace: Nia Studio'S Retail Space
Nia Studio, this retail space was a newly built construction project located in the historic King-Lincoln District of Columbus. This studio was created to provide a safe space for independent dance and yoga instructors in the community to host classes. Their slogan was “move with a purpose”.
MMD was hired to work with the builders to design and create spaces that not only accentuated the history of this area but also included natural elements that would bring a calm atmosphere for their potential clients. MMD used an eclectic design in this space combining boho-chic colors, art and textures together with the modern clean lines, and natural materials like moss walls and wood panels. This design gave our client the inviting and sleek lobby, a functional and inspiring dance/yoga studio, and a modern restroom that they asked us for.
